LET THE COUNTDOWN BEGIN!

No I'm not talking about Christmas or New Years, silly. I'm talking about my birthday! 12 days from the publication date will be my birthday (for those who are bad at math or can't be stuffed... that's the 8th of December) So in 12 days I will be officially 15. Yay for me!

Me Signing off leaving you to ponder this quote...

"Happy birthday to me! Happy birthday to me! Happy Birthday to me-e! Happy birthday to me!"

Ahh yes, don't you just love the feeling you get when a lot of pressure is lifted of your back. Personally i still have a few kilos or so still on mine but it feels better. If you don't know what I'm talking about think back to last weeks episode and you will see that I and every single year 9 (in my school and perhaps the area) had yearly exams and i know that all the above year 9 and HSC people will go "but it's only year 9" but to you i say this!
We as teenagers exagerate to make things seem much more of a deal than if we told the same old trite and dull truth. We use it to add spice to our lives which are far to boring to comprehend in human ways so...

"If quizzs are quizical, and exams are examinations... what are tests?"
Ok like I said earlier, I have just finished my yearlys (well not all I still have one left) and i feel better coz theres no more mental pressure. On Friday I ended up just writing whatever on my History exam coz I was so mentally exaughsted. Its like a feeling of being awake and you are walking around and all that but you don't seem to be there. Like you've been staring at one thing for too long and you forget why you're staring at it in the first place. Anyway now that the majority of my tests are over I have more time to do things for fun but then I realise that I propably just passed most of my exams because I didn't study hard enough for any of them (maybe except science and english) so I have made a resolution to myself.
I will study harder and get better marks
(come on I'm being realistic here... Its not like i'll be able to get top of any of my classes with people like
  • Analise Tyne [top of science]
  • Lisa Mcgrory [English whizz]
  • Caryn Griffin [Art enthusiast]
  • Kurtis Lindsay [ Good at Geography]
  • everyone else in advanced maths [better at maths than me]
  • Sophie Toocaram [ All rounder, good at everything. Scored second in science!])

So I plan that for next year for the Half yearlys and Yearlys I resolve to get atleast 80% anything under is not good enough. (course my habit of procastinating on study and everything educational will hold me back but that is one of my new years resolutions. Speaking of New Years Resolutions that brings me onto my next topic.)

"Cha-Ching!"

Sound of the Cash Register

Holidays... They're fun and a great time to catch up with your rel-O's or just wind down and relax. But it being Summer and the Southern Hemisphere, Christmas is coming and that could only mean one thing...

Christmas shopping season

Its another one of those holidays ruined by big corporations. I call it the Halmark Effect, where big corporations like Halmark start selling all these things that personally we could a) do without and b) make ourselves,

Eg Valentines Day. It was practically made by Halmark as a day to make heaps of money.

THEY RUINED THE TRUE MEANING OF ST VALENTINES DAY which is to celebrate your relationship with the ones you love. But honestly do we really need the cards and teddy bears that say "I love you" (or its even cornier verion "I wub you") which are made by HALMARK?

(see more on the history of St Valentines Day: http://www.historychannel.com/exhibits/valentine/history.html)

Well I don't think so! I you really care for someone you should put the time and effort into making something that shows that you love them. Not some card that you buy that was designed by clihe designers who think that puppy eyes and love hearts and funny slogans sufice to say that you really love someone that much.

Well I say NO MORE! I say boycott the big corporations and make something for someone you care about, make a card or something special that really says "I love you" in a way that something hand and home made can.

And so that concludes my attack on big corporations and I'll leave you with this phrase.

You can't buy love, you can't buy happiness, all that you can buy is superficiality.

Craft Tip #1

The University Students' Cheap and Inexpensive Whiteboard

You heard right folks, in today episode of SBOEL and probably more episodes to come, I will be teaching you many nifty craft tricks which are handy and easy to make. This week is a whiteboard which is inexpensive and easy to make. I call it THE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS' CHEAP AND INEXPENSIVE WHITEBOARD

Ok heres what you need:

  1. A wall
  2. A pice of paper (preferably A3 or larger)
  3. Contact (the stuff you cover books with)
  4. Whiteboard Markers (to use on it afterwards)
  5. Sticky Tape (you only need the sticky tape if the contact doesn't stick to the wall)

Ok so now you've got all the stuff you need to make the whiteboard.

  1. take your sheet of paper and then grab your contact.
  2. measure out a piece of contact that is larger than the paper by about 3 or 4 cm.
  3. stick the paper to the contact. (you may get some bubbles but thats ok)
  4. then stick it to your wall.
  5. If the contact won't hold add some sticky tape in the corners.
  6. To add a touch of authenticity, you could find a picture frame that is large enough to put around the "whiteboard"
  7. And there you have it. Now you can start drawing and writing to your hearts content.

Also if you feel like it you can put one of these on your fridge. Repeat steps 1-5 only you don't need paper and instead of wall, its fridge.

If you have any handy ideas for things that are useful and you would like it to be featured on this segment email me at

nait_selrahc@yahoo.com.au

And as always comments and feedback is always appreciated.

Yearly Exams are upon us! Panic Panic

My yearlys are here. Eeeepppp! I mean (cough) oh no...
Anyway like i was saying, the yr 9 yearlys are upon Yr9 KHS and for me its a big issue because i pretty much havent studied a single bit. I blame it on me, my bad study habbits and the fact that i procastinate far too much (put things off until a later stage). I have a Science exam, English, Maths, Geography, Art, French Writing exam, French Listening exam, History and then French Speaking exam. (in that paticular order) there isn't much else to put in todays episode because i've been far to busy with my "study" or lack of in my case. As per usual next week the normal segments will return and as always if you would like to be part of any of thoes like THIS WEEKS BIRHTDAY BASHES! or just tell me anything amusing and random email me at nait_selrahc@yahoo.com.au and leave comments please I'd love to hear your feed back.
This is Nait Selrahc Signing off with this weeks phrase...

Terrigal on Tuesday, Wacky Wednesday, French Breakfast Friday

On todays episode of
SPONTANEOUS BANTER OF EVERYDAY LIVES...

  • A little more about me.

  • (including a special birthday on Halloween. oOoOoOoOoOo...)
  • Plus a Community Service Announcement
  • &
  • Pictures (if I have any) inbetween each.
<~>

<~>
This week was extremely... what's the word for it? Fun? no not quite. Exciting? Actually more like trite and dull as hell. Busy? I guess that fits.
This week was extremly busy for me. On monday I woke up to find it was Pink Ribbon Day for Australia, its a day where you buy (I didn't have time to buy one so I made one instead. I know not right but hey) a pink ribon which looks like this...
and pin it to your clothes to support the research for a cure for breast cancer and whatnot.
Tuesday was abit more fun. The whole of Killara High's Year 9's (with exception to a few individuals who decided it would be better not to go) went up the NSW coast to the Central Coast Region to a town called Terrigal as a geography excursion. Long story short had "fun" seeing as it was school related (the fun part was seeing people down the street run away from you because they didn't want to answer a short survey on Costal managment).
Wednesday was a Mufti (wear whatever you want to school) Day called Wacky Wednesday which was organised by KHS's SRC. This mufti day was dedicated to the... ummm... funding of... research?... ok I forgot but the basic jist is that it was to raise money for a good cause.
Thursday. Ah god bless the Judith Lucy Show on 2dayFM (104.1). They have taken a stand for Delta (for those who don't know who Delta Goodrem is she's a singer that is much loved by the Australian Public) and gotten Sydney to rally behind them as they sent a CD full of hate messages from Sydeny siders to the one and only blonde bombshell of a tart, Miss "I'm so blonde and sleazy that I have to boast about my recent 'victories" Hilton (FYI I'm talking about Paris) who broke up The Scud aka The Poo aka Mark Philippoussis (Australian Tennis Player) and Delta Goodrem. The Judith Lucy Show sent Evete a woman from Maroubra to hunt Paris down and give her the CD filled with Sydneys thoughts of her. Most of it runs along the lines of "you're a tart", "Slut", "You've been through all your american men. Now you're after our Aussie guys" etc etc. So far Evete has been going prety well but still hasn't found Paris yet but she has been getting alot of help from locals of L.A. The actual "Hunt for Paris Hilton" information isn't actually up but you can go to www.2dayfm.com.au to listen to some other bits and pieces which are actually quite funny.
Friday... Boy was this day jam packed! Bras Across the Beach held by 2dayFM and the Judith Lucy Show. Monday 25th October, 2004 was Pink Ribbon Day raising money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. In support of this worthy cause, 2DayFM strung ‘Bra’s Across the Beach’ on Friday 29th October, 2004 to raise much needed funds for breast cancer research. The Judith Lucy Show was there broadcasting live along with all the celebrities. Heaps of people donated bras and a few Australian Celebrity bras were there as well. Here are some pics of the day:
Funnily enough Friday was also national Bandanna Day by Canteen an organisation which supports teenaged cancer sufferers. On this particular day bandannas go up for sale in retailers like Wollworths etc to raise money for research for a cure.
Friday also brought another BIG event...
French Breakfast for KHS Yr 9 French class. Yes this huge breakfast consisting of eclair au chocolate (chocolate eclaires), croissants et pain (no that is not pain it's bread in french) hosted by our French Teacher Mrs Bird at La Petit Nid (The little nest) in The House, LC4. Here are some pics that we had taken on the day.
Well that was this week up until today.
You may or may not have read my profile but even if you haven't it doesn't matter. Its not accurate and I can't be bothered to change it so heres todays oneshot segment...
More about me
Hi my name is Charles Tian. I live in Ku-Ring-Gai which is on the North Shore (no my family is not loaded) I'm 14 but could pass for an 18 year old or so I've been told by complete strangers. My life is quite paradoxical, I have the mental capacity to think and act like someone who is much older than me (lets say 29) but at the same time have the mental ability to think and act like a 6 year old. I watch cartoons like the Simpsons and stuff on ABC Kids (these days it comes out of habit rather than actually watching it) and I enjoy it. I also watch Current Affairs shows like A Current Affair or Today Tonight, and I watch American TV Dramas like CSI and CSI Miami which I find highly stimulating and not at all gory. I like to read, but I have a tendancy to read fan fiction for novels like Harry Potter (they're actually quite good) and not real novels. I also like listening to music, any music. As long as it isn't something that my parents would listen to. And I like to make things like hand bound books, things made from things I find on the side of the road and I like photography. I'm involved in extra curricular activities like Choir, the Duke of Ed, and youth work (Ku-Ring-Gai Youth council and attending youth events.) I love art but hate my art teacher (most of my art class hate her) and my forte is sculpture, print making and craft. Well that about sums it up for now. If you think I missed anything just leave a comment.
THIS WEEKS BIRTHDAY BASHES!

Two weeks in and I'm running out of things to write

Hello there and Hi!
on this weeks show theres Poetry at Poetry.com, More random things and more THIS WEEKS BIRTHDAY BASHES!
Poetry, to some its boring, to others its a way of communication but whatever you believe it is it doesnt really matter, poetry is poetry.
Many months back ( I forget when) i entered a Poem into a contest at Poetry.com, a site dedicated to amature poetry, and I won a spot in a book. How cool is that! Anyway jsut recently I recieved an email that said "because I had won a place in a book eariler in the year, I would be getting another place in another book to be published sometime later this year/ early next year" or something along those lines. So i thought "What the hey if they want a poem I'll give'm a poem" which is exactly what I did. I got a poem that i wrote on a flight from Sydney to Shanghai, which was about looking out of the airplane window to a wonderland of fluffy white tinted gold by the setting sun and marveling at its beauty, and entered it. While there I also entered a Haiku competition (I've come to realise that most of the poems I write are about celestial things such as the sun, sky, moon etc. etc.) which is about the sky. If you would like to enter or check out my work then go to www.poetry.com (if you want to check out my work then search up my name: Charles Tian).
Wish me luck!
This weeks Spontaneous things that happened this week...
Well it rained alot, most Sydneysiders (infact most of NSW) would know that. I also judged at the FITZ Band Comp in ST Ives (for any international readers, thats in Sydney, NSW... Australia) which was great.
Newsflash! Truck driver almost drives truck into creek!
Yes thats right folks on Wednesday (I think) a truck, which very much resembled a semi-trailer, got itself stuck on Minimurra Avenue in Gordon/West Pymble. It appears that the driver was attempting to do a U-y on Ryde Rd and ended up slipping abit into the creek next to Minimurra Ave. State traffic service came to its rescue shortly afterwards and by the end of the day, the truck was winched out of its impending "doom" and back on the road again. This reporter does not know the true extent of the details but I am pretty sure that truckie got a hefty fine for damaging the environment and causing quite a bit of traffic.
THIS WEEKS BIRTHDAY BASHES!
This week we recognise the 15th (I think) birthday of Annalise Tyne (sorry if I spelt your name wrong). HAPPY 15th. And thats it. If you would like to be part of THIS WEEKS BIRTHDAY BASHES write to me at nait_selrahc@yahoo.com.au you can keep your age a secret if you wish. you could also go to:

Caught a cold on the 2 hottest days in October

Well if you haven't already noticed, I can be a bit weird but that isn't the half of it. This week on Wednesday and Thursday I caught a cold. But this was no ordinary cold, this cold was caught on the two hottest days of october ever! Wednesday peaked at a record breaking 38 degrees celcius and Thursday a 34 degrees celcius. What really gets to me though is that while in China, which was kinda cold, I didn't get sick but when i get back to OZ... BOOM! I'm sick.
Anyway I've got a new segment for you guys. It's called:
"THIS WEEKS BIRTHDAY BASHES!"
This segment was made so that I could acknowledge the birthdays of my close friends and family. It won't be appearing that oftens so yeah, lets get started with "THIS WEEKS BIRTHDAY BASHES!"
For this week Sunday the 10th to Sunday the 17th of October 2004 we acknowledge the 17th birthday of my cousin Andrew Cong (Happy 17th man!) and the 15th birthday of my friend Caryn Griffin and her twin brother Paul Griffin (Happy 15th guys!) so in total for this week there are 3 birthdays and a total of 47 bashes. Welcome to the premier of Spontaneous Banter of Everyday Lives

WELCOME
this is Nait Selrahc on the Airwaves for...
The premier episode of SBOEL or
SPONTANEOUS BANTER OF EVERYDAY LIVES
This is a blog made by the author of this Blog for spontaneous(random) things that happen in my/your/his/her everyday life, spanning from what I hear to what I see and what I or someone else does
starting with today 29/09/04!
Today started in Beijing China, where I am currently on holidays, by navigating busy Beijing traffic at 8am(i know way to early), with the beeping and the bumper to bumper and the pollution in the sky, to get to a vocal training session, which I was late for.
Then it moves on to going out into the city and coing basicly nowhere (you know here there and back again) and shopping. Alex, my brother(Hi if you're reading this) bought, oh I don't know, about 6 shirts, 1 jacket, a pair of shoes and I forget anything else. Where as me, I just buy 1 shirt.
Anyway tommorow i have to get up at 6am (again way to early) to navigate my way through Beijing traffic, again and probably for the next 12 days, to get to another vocal training session on the other side of town, opposite(I think) to where I usually go. Well thats about it i guess, If you have anything random to report about or some comments go right ahead.
This is Nait Selrahc Signing out and saying
Have a VERY VERY good day!
PS this blog and probably several others will appear in GMT+8:00 (Beijnig Time) until I get back to OZ where it will change to Eastern Standard Time Australia (GMT+10:00)
