Just watching the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics...

I'm currently watching the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony.
Just one thing that i noticed was the Chinese Olympic team. It portrays the gender imbalance quite well i think. The front of the team was all women and the back all men, and the men went around the half of the stadium. Thats a lot, from a team of 600 something. I feel safe saying that the chinese olympic team is a bit of a, for lack of a better expression, sausage fest.
It just re-enforces my statement about how China wouldn't want me as a Chinese citizen (just as well that I'm Australian then), what with my gender, and chinese illiteracy.
Another thing about this opening ceremony, in my opinion is that it was pretty much all the same. I was spectacular, and it was very well done, but the music just seemed to stay at one level. i found myself getting just a tad bored of it. And then there was the little girl that sung and then floated over the stadium. I wonder if she knows that most australians see her as a chinese nikki webster.
Anyway, just waiting to see the cauldron lit and then I'm off to bed.

*update*
well the torch lighting ceremony was quite interesting. A man running (suspended by wires) along the walls of the birds nest. For a second earlier, whule he was going up i thought for a second his torch went out. Actually i was hoping that it would involve a dragon. Alas it did not. Oh well, it was still spectacular.

you were listening to that annoying commentry when they mentioned nikki webster :P

i found the opening ceremony to be a little hypocritical inthe part where the children try bring back all the brids from global warming- i mean china is one of the nations who refuse to take action to reduce emissions...

also. since when were there 204 countries in the world? some of the places are sooo not countries...

but i did enjoy the efforts of those places who sent like 2 people.
did sudan go btw?

yes i was listening to that, but i was thinking it when she was singing, they mentioned it when she was flying across the stadium.
Ok yes China was being hypocritical, not to mention the fact that China's opening ceremony was of a very soft tone, you know what i mean? they put a lot of historical stuff and cultural stuff that was supposed to have been destroyed during the cultural revolution of the 60's. Trying to project a softer image i suppose. Not that i don't like the short history lesson (really it is short if you look at how long China's history goes) as it makes me feel a little more connected with my roots. But given all the controversy over China's human rights abuse etc. It was a very political thing.
There are, according to wikipedia (yes i know, wikipedia isn't to be trusted on its citation) that there are 245 entities that can be classified as something akin to countries. so technically there can be 204 countries in the world. and yes i agree some of those places aren't countries by normal standards but *shrug* who really cares? (unless you're talking about the whole israel and palestine thing in which case probably lots of people care, but in which case i really don't)
Yes sudan did go. its medal tally to the date stands at 0-0-0-0 (Gold -Silver-Bronze-Total)
